The Viola family has always had a strong bond with wine, indigenous grape varieties and terroir.  Alessandro's father was a winegrower and, post his wine studies and travelling around the globe gaining experience, Alessandro returned home to focus on the things he truly loves.  We've only just discovered his wines but we love the style.  Certified organic and practising biodynamics, his Catarratto, produced from vines planted by his grandfather over 30 years ago, is a lovely deep yellow from extended skin contact.  The nose is really impressive, powerful with notes of apricots, poached pear, tropical hints, honey and butter.  The palate has power and elegance, beautifully weighted with fresh acidity and a lovely texture.  There are a whole array of flavours going on - pear, galia melon, apricot, a touch of banana, pineapple, citrus, peach, buttered popcorn, cinnamon, wet stones, honey - and it evolves in the glass.  Incredibly complex with a huge length of finish, it's elegant, powerful, balanced, harmonious, long, and stunningly delicious.  One of the wine highlights of the year for me and some has been added straight into my cellar.  Treat yourself too.
