We are two 50 something year olds who’ve both spent a fair bit of time in the world of wine. Tasting thousands of wines, meeting winemakers, visiting vineyards, working with other independent merchants, and lugging around heavy boxes.
And we’ve learnt a few important lessons along the way:
- great wine starts in the vineyard
- every wine tells a story – and some stories are better than others
- drinking less but drinking better makes a lot of sense
- it’s okay to mispronounce wine names, we’ve all done it (and, on occasion, still do)
- zero dosage champagne at 8am after going to bed at 5am is bracing
- we know a good wine when it’s put in front of us
- if you drink a bottle of 15.5% shiraz on your own, you will get a headache
- us humans have really messed up this planet
Armed with this knowledge, we have carefully created a list of wines we love to drink - an extension of our home cellar if you like - all made by caring people in a sustainable, ethical way. A lot of the wines are certified organic or biodynamic, but all are produced with a view to leaving their patch of land better than they found it. Which is a good thing.
We take that same ethos into what we do - using recycled packaging, an eco-friendly courier, a green electricity supplier, and a green bank. We’re not fully fledged hippies, but we’re trying to do our little bit.
We’re B-Corp pending, meaning our business cares as much about people and the planet as it does about profit. You can read more about B-Corp here.
But most importantly, we’re real people who like watching our kids grow into well rounded young adults (most of the time), as well as good food, good company, sport, travel and our two little cocker spaniels, Izzy and Betsy.
If you like what you read, then you’ll probably like what we drink so why not give us a try?
