Superstar winemaker Telmo Rodriguez and his friend, Pablo Eguzkiza, set up their company in 1994 to identify old vineyards in Spain planted with native grape varieties.  Their aim is to rediscover the "true" historic taste of Rioja and they have purchased some fantastic old sites in the region and painstakingly restored them.  Whilst they can identify the Tempranillo, Graciano and Carinena, there are some old varieties that they are still unsure of that go into the final blend.  La Estrada is one of their two single vineyard wines and, like their other top wines, they are mightily difficult to get hold of.  We've managed to snaffle a few bottles so if you know the wine and would like some, do not hesitate.  It's new style old school Rioja at its finest.
