We recently tasted through a number of top end Californian Chardonnays and the Chanin came out on top.  Given that most of the other wines were a lot more expensive, that is even more impressive.  Hats off to Gavin Chanin, he makes some terrific wines.  Los Alamos is a high altitude vineyard planted in 1960 and it is a really plush, wonderfully balanced wine.  It's got plenty of ripe tropical fruit, citrus, apricot, honey, butter and oak but it's all balanced by crisp acidity, an underlying minerality, a hint of salinity and superb length of flavour. I've yet to taste a bad wine from Chanin.  And he's a seriously good artist too (he designs all the labels).
