A grape variety that's new to me and actually rather delicious. It's a rare variety found in Piedmont and, sadly, a variety that seems to be disappearing given that it's more profitable to plant Nebbiolo. It looks like Pinot Noir in the glass, very light, and the nose is really pretty with wild strawberries, lifted floral notes and a subtle earthiness coming through. It's fresh and inviting. On the palate, there's lovely sweet red fruit - strawberry, raspberry and cherry, as well as pepper, minerality and fresh acidity. Lovely purity. The tannins are barely noticeable until the finish when there's a little bit of grip, which adds to the enjoyment. Really quaffable and different and exactly the sort of wine that makes our list a little bit different.
