Bodegas LAN lies in the heart of Rioja Alta and they own one of the most spectacular single vineyard sites in the region - Vina Lanciano.  The grapes for the Xtreme Ecologico are taken from this vineyard and the wine is a stunner.  Bright red fruits greet you on the nose - wild strawberry, cranberry, red cherry - along with dried figs, vanilla, liquorice and clove.  Full bodied on the palate with silky tannins and juicy acidity, the red fruit is again to the fore with some dark fruit lurking beneath and notes of sweet spice, leather, tobacco and a bit of earthiness.  Long and balanced, I think this has the capacity to develop nicely in bottle for 5-7 years or more.  Brilliantly priced for a wine that is certified organic.
