We were thrilled to hear that Peter-Allan Finlayson, winemaker at Gabrielskloof and owner/winemaker at Crystallum, has just been named Winemaker of the Year by Tim Atkin MW in his ninth annual South Africa Special Report.  We've been selling Peter-Allan's wines since his very first vintage of Crystallum and Gabrielskloof's The Blend (Peter-Allan is the winemaker for his father-in-law) is a wine that punches well above its weight.  A true Bordeaux blend (minus the Merlot), it's a full mix of blackcurrant, dark cherry, damson and raspberry along with notes of dark chocolate, sweet spice, mocha and cigar.  It's medium to full bodied with fine tannins and decent acidity plus a good length of finish.  Pair with a decent chunk of steak and you've got a match made in heaven.
