Romain Guiberteau is an ambitious young producer. He worked with Nady Foucault at Clos Rougeard and counts some of the Loire's most esteemed growers - Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau, Maxime Graillot - as his friends. His wines are becoming highly sought after but still represent great value at this moment in time. Les Chapaudaises is a wonderfully crafted wine, silky and delicate, pure and linear with depth and complexity. The nose and palate offer lovely dark hedgerow fruit, spice, tobacco and smoke with just the right amount of herby, leafy character. It's velvety on the palate with a decent level of acidity and fine grained tannins, beautifully poised and balanced, and long and harmonious on the finish. Delicious drinking now, it will develop in the bottle for well over a decade and I'll certainly be putting some in our personal cellar. Look out for his whites too!
