Romain Guiberteau is an ambitious young producer. He worked with Nady Foucault at Clos Rougeard and counts some of the Loire's most esteemed growers - Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau, Maxime Graillot - as his friends. His wines are becoming highly sought after but still represent great value at this moment in time. The Breze Saumur Blanc is sourced from two old vine parcels of Chenin Blanc, planted in 1933 and 1952. Winemaking takes a natural approach and then the wine spends 18 months ageing on its lees in barrel. The result is a magnificent wine that is highly sought after across the world, becoming more so each vintage. It is a wine that drinks beautifully upon release - packed with crisp, minerally stone fruit, citrus, mandarin, honey, flowers, smoke, wet wool, complexity, harmony, balance, length, everything!! - but it ages wonderfully. Not as well known as Clos Rougeard but certainly a star on the rise. Only a few bottles available of this each vintage (and I keep some for my own cellar!).
