A relatively new project from a young winemaker - Juan Pablo Murgia - this stunning wine is produced in the world's most southerly wine producing region. It's an incredibly harsh environment with hostile winds and frosts all year round but Juan Pablo believes that he can make world class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir here. And who are we to argue? Tim Atkin MW is a big fan, promoting Otronia to First Growth status in 2023 and the wines are beautiful. Whilst the Pinot Noir is good (and we can get hold of it if required), we felt that the Chardonnay fully merited its price point. Taut and minerally with fine notes of peach, pear, citrus and herbs, it's wonderfully balanced with crisp acidity and great poise. You wouldn't have it down as New World Chardonnay, but then you wouldn't guess Old World either. That's its beauty, I guess, that it has a place of its own. Amazing that such a hostile environment can produce such a stunning wine!
