Restless River have been on our radar for a while as we'd heard great things about Craig Wessels' wines.  They have quietly achieved cult status amongst lovers of finely crafted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Cabernet Sauvignon so we were excited to try them for ourselves. The fruit is sourced from three different sites on their farm (the Dignity vineyard being the oldest planted Cabernet in the region) and all the sites allow for long and slow ripening, adding complexity and concentration.  It's an incredibly fine wine, packed with pure blackcurrant, blackberry and damson fruit, along with bramble, tobacco, graphite and spice.  The tannins are incredibly fine and there's good acidity, suggesting great ageing potential.  It has rich fruit but it's wonderfully balanced with a real elegance to it.  From an area better known for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this is an impressive wine.
