Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre, Viognier, Roussanne / 14.5% / sustainable
A fantastic SGM blend with the addition of 1% Viognier and 1% Roussanne to lift the aromatics, this is a seriously good wine (awarded a Gold at the recent Decanter World Wine Awards). Packed with a heady mix of blackberry, blackcurrant, plum and red cherry fruits on the nose, along with toasty oak, cocoa and cinnamon, the palate is voluptuous and silky with multiple layers of mixed black and red fruits, warm spice, chocolate, pepper and vanilla. It seems very ripe to begin with on the palate but is actually really fresh with a lovely lift from the white varieties as well as medium plus acidity and juicy tannins. The wine is harmonious, balanced and long, and what I love is the way it evolves in the glass. After a while, sniff and you'll find a hint of smoky bacon and tobacco, sip and you'll get some blueberry and olive. Very complex, very enjoyable and very moreish. Exceptional.
