Another stunner from the brilliant Kevin Judd but this is a different take on Sauvignon Blanc in that it is fermented and matured in oak barrels. This gives the wine a texture and creaminess that the regular Sauvignon Blanc doesn't have and I think that, of the two, this is the one I prefer. On the nose, the wine bursts out the glass with notes of mango, papaya, honeydew melon, quince, orange and lemon zest. The tropical theme continues on the palate along with cream, subtle smoke, fennel and minerals. Textural and rich but balanced and fresh at the same time, it finishes crisp and long with a flinty dryness. Top stuff.
