Whitewolfe Estates is a new venture from ex Plumpton students Clare Whitehead and Luke Wolfe, with the aim of making the UK's finest still wines. Their 10 hectare vineyard is in Kit's Coty, fast becoming recognised as "the" place to plant vines for still wine, especially Chardonnay. They planted 7 Chardonnay clones in 2019 so it makes the quality of their 2022 releases all the more remarkable given the youth of the vines. These are very fine wines indeed. Their KC2 is more Burgundian than the crisper KC1, although still with a distinctive style of its own. More rounded and slightly fuller with notes of lemon curd, apple, subtle mango and soft hints of oak, I'd say that this is the one that I (just) prefer for now, although I think the KC1 will develop well in bottle. Again, it's a beautifully balanced wine, very elegant with subtle nuances and great length of flavour. I've yet to taste better English still wines than this pair.
