Wow, this is my sort of wine. Smooth as you like, liquid cashmere, this is a stunning introduction into the excellent line up from Shafer. It's unashamedly New World and has a wonderful velvety texture but it's balanced and harmonious, everything in the right place. The nose reminds me a bit of Gruaud Larose, berry fruit and strawberry cheesecake, then the palate has layer upon layer of blackcurrant, blackberry, strawberry, cherry, tobacco, mocha, subtle sweet oak and coconut. The tannins are incredibly fine and the acidity is well balanced. Long, satisfying and moreish. As I said, wow!
