2018 / Burgundy / France

Pinot Noir / 13.5% / biodynamic

From one of Burgundy's rising stars, Pierrick has a period working at Felton Road on his CV and he took over the family estate in 2014. This wine comes from a 0.5 hectare plot of 60-90 year old vines, biodynamically farmed, and his wines are generally made with little intervention.  Indeed, Pierrick considers himself a vigneron first and foremost, rather than a winemaker.  It's a lovely wine with an array of red and black fruits on the nose along with a pleasant vegetal character and hints of coffee and spice.  The palate is cashmere smooth with spicy dark cherry, wild strawberry, truffle and subtle toasty oak.  The acidity is really bright with very fine tannins, great balance and good length.  Whilst drinking wonderfully now, it's got a good few years in it yet, depending on how developed you like your Pinots.  Still sensibly priced for Burgundy, I'm not sure how long that will last as his is a name that's starting to be mentioned a lot.
