A wine that's new to the Willunga 100 line up and one that was first bought to our attention when we heard it had scored 18/20 from Julia Harding, writing for Jancis Robinson (this being an exceptionally high score from the site). Described as "more Burgundy than Rhone", this is certainly an elegant expression of Shiraz - medium bodied and plush with bright notes of raspberry, morello cherry and blackberry, along with hints of violets. But it does reveal subtle meaty undertones, tapenade and spice alongside that sweet fruit and although I'd probably guess Shiraz as the grape variety, I don't think I'd pick it as Australian. It's really very good indeed, with fine tannins, juicy acidity, lovely balance and great length. Whilst drinking well now with a good decant, it should also develop well in bottle for a decade or more. An exciting new style for Aussie Shiraz.
