Produced from the best grapes from the best plots in Fontodi's stunning vineyards in the Conca d'Oro, Flaccianello is one of Italy's most iconic wines that ages beautifully. It's 100% Sangiovese, made using the biodynamic principles that work for them (they are certified organic). I was lucky enough to visit Fontodi a few years ago and it really is an impressive set up with outstanding wines. This Flaccianello is bright ruby in colour with a lovely nose of black cherries, damson, flowers, spice and tea leaves. On the palate, it is sumptous and silky with layers of dark cherry and berry fruits, spice, herbs, tobacco, cedar and leather. The tannins are very fine grained and well integrated and there is a decent level of acidity, which helps the wine to age gracefully and evolve in the bottle. Wonderfully balanced, with a long finish, this will only get better and better. Having been treated a few times to older vintages (including at the property), I can assure you that this is well worth the wait when you do start drinking. Drink from 2025 and enjoy over the following 20 years.
