The small Fossacolle estate (4 hectares) is in the south of Montalcino and such are the quality of their vineyards that they've won multiple awards over the years. Hardly surprising given that Adriano Bambagioni learnt his craft working alongside Giacomo Tachis, the father of Super Tuscan wines. This Brunello has a lovely nose of cherry and blackberry, leather and tea leaves with lifted aromatics and a hint of spice. Medium bodied with bright cherry and bramble fruit, leather, minerals, fennel and clove, the oak is well judged and it has very fine tannins and juicy acidity. Perfectly balanced and silky on the palate with depth of flavour, complexity and length. It's powerful but subtly so and very elegant at the same time. And whilst it's great now, it's only going to get better and better with some time in bottle. A truly top quality wine.
