We haven't got a huge amount of Burgundy on our list for a number of reasons, much as we love it. The prices are crazy for the good stuff, it's difficult to get consistency of supply, I'm always comparing things to Pierre Yves Colin Morey (whose wines I think are amazing), and there are loads of other interesting wines that we'd rather list than run of the mill Burgundy. But, if you look hard, you can find decent value in some of the lesser communes, and this Saint Romain from David Moret is one such wine (albeit still not cheap). He is a micro negociant making only white wines in his small cellar in Beaune and purchasing grapes from the top growers in the region. His Saint Romain is refined and elegant with notes of melon, peach, apple, citrus and almonds. The toasty oak is well judged and sits in harmony with the fruit, there's bright acidity and a mineral note to the palate, leading to a creamy textured finish. It's really good Burgundy from a winemaker that's a bit under the radar. But we like best kept secrets!
