I came across this by chance a little while back and I'm really pleased that I did as it's stunning. Jane Eyre is a very talented Australian winemaker who produces wine under her own label in both Burgundy and Australia and, whilst her Burgundian Pinot Noirs are superb, I think that in terms of bang for your buck, her Aussie wines are the winners. This Mornington Peninsula wine is produced from 30 year old vines sourced from two vineyards in Merricks. Gently vinified and then aged for 10 months in used French barrels, it's a beautiful silky wine with delicious tangy red fruit on the nose (I knew I was going to love it at that point) and a perfectly poised palate. It has a lovely mix of pure ripe fruit and savoury character on the palate with a tiny bit of spice at the end, good acidity and very fine tannins. It has real elegance and is lovely and long, so we can't recommend it highly enough. Keep an eye out for Jane's other wonderful wines as well.
