We recently enjoyed a bottle of the 2013 vintage of Planetes - a 60/40 blend of Garnacha and Carinyena, aged in amphora - and it reminded me of what a fabulous wine this is (along with most of their other wines). It's got the dark cherry, liquorice laden fruit and lovely minerality that one would expect from Priorat but the level of freshness and elegance is what sets it apart. As it opens in the glass, it starts showing some lifted red fruit, spice and earthiness as well, all wrapped in very fine tannins and lifted acidity, leading into a lengthy finish. It's a stunner, for drinking now with a long decant, or leave in bottle to develop beautifully over the next 5-10 years.
