I'm lucky enough to have visited Fontodi and was tremendously impressed by their location, situated in the prime Conca d'Oro (golden shell) of Panzano; their vineyards, certified organic but adopting many biodynamic principles; and owner, Giovanni Manetti, who is so passionate and committed to the project, as well as being a thoroughly charming man. The Chianti Classico may be their entry level red but it's a quality wine in its own right. Silky and smooth with layers of dark cherry and blackberry, leather, tobacco and spice, bright acidity, ripe tannins and great length of flavour, it's a cracking introduction into their range and one of the best Chianti Classico you will come across.
