2020 / Ribeira Sacra / Spain

A project run by four friends who met while studying oenology together. Their focus is on exploring the ancient, Atlantic influenced terroirs of Ribeira Sacra, The Canary Islands and Almansa through traditional farming and minimal intervention winemaking. All produced in tiny quantities, this wine is made from vines with an average age of 60 years old and sitting between 300 and 500 metres above sea level. Whole bunch fermented with wild yeasts in open top tanks, the wine is gently fermented for 16-18 days then undertakes malolactic fermentation in mixed size French oak barrerls before maturing in barrel for an additional 11 months. Fresh and young on the nose with bright red fruits - raspberry and strawberry - along with violets and star anise. Juicy and silky on the palate with those red fruits and spice showing as well as white pepper, a mineral note, good acidity and velvety tannins. Long, harmonious and delicious, another wine that shows how exciting Spanish wine has become over the last few years.
