One of the natural winemaking pioneers in Beaujolais, Jean-Louis Dutraive makes wonderful wines at his Domaine de la Grand'Cour. They are proof that Beaujolais in the right hands can be truly world class. The Fleurie La Madone comes from a single plot to the east of Fleurie, with the vines planted on steep slopes. Fermented in concrete then aged in barrels for 6 months, this is vibrant and juicy with plenty of crunchy strawberry and cherry fruit along with earthy, minerally notes and a touch of herbs. Cracking Beaujolais as it should be - a joy to drink - but don't be afraid to cellar some for a while - it's quite a revelation!
