2018 / Mendoza / Argentina

Malbec / 14.5% / organic

Founded in 2012 by Edgardo del Popolo and David Bonomi, trailblazers on the Argentine wine scene, PerSe is a boutique winery based in Gualtallary in the Uco Valley, where they have planted their vines at 1500m above sea level.  They believe the sub region has the ideal combination of soils and climate required to achieve the extraordinary wines they want to (and are) making.  Each wine comes from a specific part of the vineyard and this is different to any Argentine wine I have drunk before.  This is not a big, thick rich Malbec (although there is a time and a place for that style).  This is more supple, allowing the juicy fruit (a range of both red fruits and black fruits) to express itself and the minerality to come through.  There's a bit of spice there, subtle, medium bodied, and everything's in balance and harmony, which is what we like.  Good acidity, tannins that you barely notice, a long finish, silky.  Classy.  Hugely enjoyable now but will develop in bottle.

Highly rated by the wine community at Vivino here.
