Marzemino, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon / 14% / sustainable
We were introduced to this wine by a fellow wine merchant some years ago and it always surprises me how good it is each time we drink a bottle. Produced on the shores of Lake Garda from 45% Marzemino (a local variety that I've rarely come across), 45% Sangiovese (the predominant variety in Tuscany) and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a bold wine that manages to be rich, silky and fresh all at the same time. Packed with ripe blueberries, cherries, blackberry jam, spice, liquorice and herbs, it has it all - fresh fruit, savoury notes, minerals, ripe tannins, juicy acidity, balance, length, complexity. It's not shy but it's bloody lovely.
