The Ruiz family has been making wine in Rias Baixas since the 1860s and Santiago is the latest in the family to continue their proud tradition. A new winery was built in 2007 with state of the art technology and it has allowed winemaker Luisa Freire to make expressive white wines that reflect the unique sense of place of O Rosal. We're big fans of this wine - it's 82% Albarino with a bit of complexity added by the introduction of indigenous varieties. Crisp apple, pear, lemon and lime dominate on the nose, then you get crisp acidity on the palate with a complex array of different fruits - lemon, poached pear, pineapple, peach, grapefruit - plus some herbal notes, minerality and salinity. It's crisp, delicious, balanced and interesting and one of our favourite quaffers of the moment.
