Started in 2013 by John & Tasha Seccombe, Thorne & Daughters are looking for a happy synergy of "people, place, soil & vines". They are part of the New Wave of young SA winemakers that are look to do things differently and do them better. They work with a small number of quality growers in the Western Cape and their main focus is on creating wonderful blends. This is aptly named Rocking Horse as, when first released, it was as rare as the saying goes. Fortunately, we're able to get our hands on a few cases each year and we're glad we can because we love it. There's loads going on when you first take a sniff - notes of pear, apricot, plum, quince and honey - and then even more happening on the palate - peach, apricot, plum, apple, citrus, vanilla, ginger, minerals and toast. Fascinating. It's quite rich but well balanced with fresh acidity and a good mouth feel. Long on the finish and all in harmony, great now and will develop further in bottle. Top stuff.
