It's a challenge to make superb whites in the Douro but the brother & sister team at Macanita have worked their magic here. Joana is the driving force behind the whites and the aim is gentle winemaking with a focus on freshness and terroir. A bright nose of citrus and stone fruits leads you in to a crisp palate with minerals to the fore along with notes of lemon, orange, pear, peach and hints of spice. It's quite textural and complex with a little bit of barrel ageing, finishing long and clean. If you haven't got into Portuguese whites yet, this is a great place to start.
