I sometimes find wines from the warm south of Italy a bit too stewed for my palate so I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly impressed when I tasted this.  Made from 100% Nero di Troia (considered one of the region's best quality indigenous varieties), this is a fresh, smooth, velvety wine that really over delivers.  It has a lovely nose of freshly macerated fruit - a compote of wild strawberries, red cherries and mulberry with subtle hints of chocolate.  Then it's really soft and supple on the palate with the red fruits shining through and nuanced notes of milk chocolate, vanilla, spice and minerals.  The tannins are elegant and the acidity balanced, and with a pleasing 13% alcohol, it's harmonious and a real crowd pleaser.  Terrifically well made, Jo loved it (she's not often a fan of Puglian wines so a big tick).  This definitely goes into the brilliant value category.
