2019 / Fleurieu Peninsula / Australia

Cabernet Sauvignon / 14.5% / sustainable

This wine recently won Gold at the Sommelier Wine Awards and we can see why.  We've been championing the wines from Dandelion for a while.  It's a husband and wife team - Zar Brooks and winemaking wife, Elena.  Their approach is simple - to make quality wines from a number of beautiful old sustainable vineyards in South Australia.  The Pride of the Fleurieu comes from Stranger's Reach vineyard which is cooled by the Great Southern Ocean.  100% Cabernet Sauvignon, it's deep in colour and exhibits an inviting nose of cassis and blackberries, mocha and cedar.  On the palate it's well structured with plenty of fresh dark berry fruits along with mint, bramble, pepper and toasty oak.  The acidity is bright and the tannins slightly grippy (in a good way), leading to a long, soft finish.  For the money, it's a lot of wine and a fair bit of complexity, which makes it a winner with us.
