Produced by brother and sister, Joana and Antonio Macanita, two of Portugal's superstar winemakers, their aim with these wines is to use old vines from some of the Douro's best vineyards, tend them well, handle them gently, and let the vines express their true terroir. The right sites in the Douro have the potential to produce world class wines and the Macanita project aims to do exactly that. What we love about their wines is that whilst the pure fruit really delivers, this is balanced by a lifted freshness, minerality and complexity that only top wines deliver. The Reserva hugely over scores for the price point, deliciously velvety and packed with both red and black fruits, chocolate and spice. Fresh acidity, silky tannins, a gorgeous mouth feel and a long, sumptuous finish complete the picture. Drinking well now, will improve further in bottle. Great stuff.
