El Coto's Coto de Imaz Rioja Gran Reserva 2017 is an award winning organic wine, packed with silky red and black fruits (cherry, wild strawberry, blackcurrant) with hints of tobacco, chocolate, sweet spice and subtle oak. Very fine indeed with plush tannins, juicy acidity and a persistent finish, it's a brilliant wine for not much money.
The Cigales Reserva 2019 from Finca Museum is another top Spanish red, slightly richer and darker than the Rioja but so wonderfully balanced. It has loads of fresh cassis and cherry fruit along with tobacco, leather, spice and toasty oak and tastes a lot more expensive than the price you pay. Perfect for the cold evenings coming up.
